It’s been almost 4 months since the initial release of Apple’s new iPad in the USA but the people of China still have to wait a few more days to get their hands on the product. But at least there’s finally a release date – the new iPad will arrive in China’s stores on the 20th July!

The announcement came shortly after Apple’s settlement with Chinese company Proview Technology, who got a $60 million settlement by Apple in order to settle the dispute and officially gain rightful ownership of the iPad trademark name, which was the reason for the lawsuit. However, officially Apple declined to comment on any relationship between the settlement and the new iPad release date.

For Apple, the launch of the new iPad in China is going to be a great benefit as the country has become a vital market. In Q2 this year, Apple’s profit was doubled from Q2 in 2011 due to iPhone sales in China, who made up $7.9 billion or 20 percent of the company’s total revenue.

Unsurprisingly, therefore, Apple went so far as to bring out features on iOS and Mac for Chinese customers only at the WWDC last month. Third-party mobile app developers were also encouraged to make sure their apps for “ready for China”.

Apple products are hot in China, as the launch of the new iPhone 4S in Bejing earlier this year showed. In order to avoid a repeat of that situation, customers will not be able to simply walk into a shop and pick up the iPad. Instead, there will be special request times between 9am and 12pm, starting on 19th July, during which customers will be able to make a reservation to buy the device. The official reason given for that process is crowd control and staff protection within the shop. The price of the new iPad is the same as it is in the USA, starting at $499, and the iPad 2 is also still available for $399.

It seems like the iPad is sure to take China by storm, as it has most other countries around the world.
